Emergency Housing/Financial Support
UC Berkeley Emergency Housing: Short-term emergency housing for students facing an imminent loss of housing, or who are currently unhoused.
UCSF Rapid Rehousing: Funding awarded to students with the greatest financial need, with the goal of helping students secure, support, and prevent imminent loss of housing.
UC Berkeley Emergency Fund: The Basic Needs Center offers emergency financial assistance in the areas of rent, food, housing security deposit and other emergency and safety needs to enrolled students who have exhausted their financial resources.
UCSF Emergency Funding/Financial Services: In a financial emergency, students may be able to obtain a short-term emergency loan. This loan must be repaid within a specified time period (generally three months) so other needy students can benefit from these limited funds.
Essential Services/Basic Needs
UC Berkeley Basic Needs Center: The Basic Needs Center acts as a virtual and physical hub that provides and connects students to essential services that impact health, belonging, and overall well-being, including food security, housing security, and financial stability.
UCSF Basic Needs Center: Through a robust model of prevention, intervention, and emergency relief, Basic Needs connects students to critical on- and off-campus resources and provides educational opportunities for students to take personal responsibility for their wellness. Services include the Student Food Market and other food security resources.
Financial Support
UC Berkeley Fellowships and Awards: Students will find deadlines and application materials for Graduate Division- Berkeley, and extramural fellowships.
UCSF Grants and Scholarships: The university grants and scholarships listed here are financial aid that you do not need to pay back. They are awarded from federal, state, and university funds according to your financial need.
UC Berkeley Graduate Division Fellowships Databases: Databases of scholarships, grants, and fellowships including UC Berkeley Fellowships, national databases, international databases, and other resources.
UCSF Searchable Fellowship Databases: Databases and helpful resources on applying for internal and extramural fellowships.
Student Healthcare
UC Berkeley University Heath Services (UHS): Access student health resources, schedule appointments at the Tang Center, view details on student health insurance (SHIP), and many more resources.
Berkeley International Office Need-Based Medical Fund: This award of $1000 is to help international students who experience unanticipated medical costs.
UCSF Student Health and Counseling Services: Access to events, student health portal, appointments including information on urgent care, student insurance information, and many more resources.
UCSF Graduate Division Health and Wellness: Resources like Fitness and Recreation, Student Disability Services, Ergonomics and Human Factors, as well as resources to help establish a supportive community.
Mental Health
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS): UC Berkeley short term counseling available at no charge for all registered students, regardless of insurance plan.
Let’s Talk Counseling: Brief, free consults with providers from University Health Services, some dedicated to supporting international students.
Counseling and Psychiatry Services: UCSF counseling and psychiatry services, adjusted to meet the immediate needs of students and to preserve the health of students and staff. Next day booked appointments may be available.
Academic Resources
UC Berkeley Graduate Writing Center: This unit offers workshops on topics such as academic writing, grant writing, dissertation writing, editing, and preparing articles for publication, in addition to writing groups and individual consultations on these topics for graduate students.
UCSF Office of Career and Professional Development: Assistance and resources for graduate students with writing research articles, information on writing courses, and more
Tax Resources
Berkeley International Office Tax Reporting Resources: Information about filing taxes, forms required and workshops to help students navigate taxes during their time at Berkeley.
International Students and Scholars Office Tax Resources The UCSF ISSO regularly presentings federal and state tax workshops via Zoom. Sign up information, along with California state tax resources are on their website.
